    The final report on the Future Forums was officially released during a presentation at Harvard University. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation president Pascale Fournier opened the Canada Seminar lecture series on September 23, 2019, which is exploring the theme Beyond Binaries: Canadian Immigration and Diversity in the 21st Century, at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.

    “What helps you get to the door and who decides who’s opening it?” The Social Enterprise Centre, an innovative space devoted to social justice and collective mobilization, hosted the Foundation’s Future Forums in Winnipeg. Inclusive Excellence and Engaged Leadership – the two central themes of the Future Forums – were discussed as participants also reflected on the issues of access and opportunity.

    Foundation President & CEO Pascale Fournier was accompanied by 2018 Mentor Nathalie Bondil, Director and Chief Curator of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) for the Future Forums workshop in Val-d'Or on February 5. The session took place at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue’s Pavillon des Premiers-Peuples.

    The Future Forums received some unique perspectives on the themes of Engaged Leadership and Inclusive Excellence during a workshop hosted by the Royal Military College of Canada with participants from Queen’s University and community groups also in attendance. Daniel Last is a professor at RMC. He observed that how inclusiveness and diversity are defined tends to focus on a small number of criteria.

    The challenge of tackling institutional change took centre stage during the Future Forums workshops at the University of Toronto and York University. Cheryl Thompson, who teaches in the Communications department at Ryerson University, was among the participants. She said the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation’s desire to make Engaged Leadership and Inclusive Excellence central themes in its programs is a bold and positive step. “It’s great to work toward inclusion and diversity. But it means things are going to be challenged.”
